Adverse effects of marijuana abuse

Marijuana is also known as dope, pot, grass or weed. And they are different appellations for the same drug that has its origin from the cannabis plant. Some people eat it, others smoke, drink or vape it.

Some people take marijuana basically for recreation and pleasure and some doctors have stated that it comes with some positive effects for symptoms and medical conditions.

The primary reason why people take and abuse marijuana is because of the “high” effects it supplies their brain. However, there are adverse effects that come with it.

Get “High”

The region of our brain that reacts to pleasure like sex, food and the likes releases the dopamine chemical. This same reaction happens when people take marijuana.

If you smoke or vape marijuana, it takes few seconds to minutes to enter the bloodstream and saturate it. Then, the THC level peaks in around 30 minutes with the effects wearing off in between 1-3 hours.

On the other hand, if it is eaten or drank, it takes hours before you get sober.

Adverse effect on the mental health

Not everyone who takes marijuana has a pleasant story to tell. Marijuana can leave you afraid and anxious. Worse still, it can increase the prospects of you having clinical depression or worsen your mental health disorders.

Distorted and Paranoid thinking

People who abuse marijuana stand the chance to have their senses and judgment clouded. And this effects depends on the potency of your pot, how it was taken and the amount of marijuana used in the past.

Hence, it can affect your sense of time. It could also distort your motor skills.

Get addicted

There is a thin line between an abuse and addiction and when an individual is addicted, some of the symptoms experienced with abuse will be worsened. You will become totally dependent on it and it would be challenging to let go.

If care isn’t taken, it could affect your brain in the long run, making it difficult for you to focus.
